Cultivating Success: The Platform that Unlocked Centerton Nursery’s Growth
Explore how our team unified operational and production management systems and replaced guesswork with certainty, empowering a plant nursery to scale while reducing weekend work for their team.
MEET THE CLIENT
Thriving Commercial Nursery
Centerton Nursery is a wholesale nursery that grows and ships a wide variety of plants and flowers. They handle a large volume of sales and employ over 100 people during their busy season.
Their operations involve carefully tracking plants through their entire life cycle and making sure they have the right amount available at the right time. Unlike other companies, Centerton can’t quickly create more products if they’re facing a shortage.
THE CHALLENGE
A Business Held Back By Its Systems
Centerton’s core challenge stemmed from their existing software, which was inflexible and disconnected. Paper records and manual data entry resulted in inefficiencies and the risk of errors, duplicate orders, and inaccurate inventory counts, making it difficult to plan effectively. It wasn’t just an efficiency problem—it was a human one, too. Managing the process meant long hours and weekend work during busy seasons, robbing the team of time with their families.
No Production Management System
The former system didn’t account for the unique process of growing plants, like tracking transplanting, growing environments, and seasonal demand. This led to missing crops, duplicate entries, and poor visibility.
Manual, Paper-Based Tracking
When staff members worked in fields or areas of the farm with low WiFi connectivity, they relied on paper records that could result in errors and lost information.
Inadequate Data & Planning
It was difficult to view and access accurate data, which impeded forecasting and could cause costly losses from either plant shortages or excess waste.
Growth Limitations
Centerton’s previous ERP was difficult to use and modify; it was not designed for companies of their size and plans for growth.
Goals
A Unified Platform for Growth
Originally, Centerton’s production planning relied on various spreadsheets that didn’t protect against errors and data loss. They envisioned a new, unified system that improved this critical process and associated activities throughout their business.
Improve Production Planning Process
In order to avoid shortages and excess waste, nurseries need to know exactly what crops to plant and how much to plant. Centerton sought to easily manage crop production forecasting and gain actionable insights year after year.
A Happier, More Empowered Team
The new system needed to provide tools that would empower staff and free up their time, reducing the stress and manual work they faced daily.
Enhance Visibility & Cohesion Across Teams
Centerton lacked clarity regarding material purchases and wanted to easily track requests and receipts, improve timelines, and simplify sales.
Proactive Planning that Enables Growth
The company’s leadership wanted to shift from reactive fixes to proactive planning with reliable data. They aimed to remove operational bottlenecks, creating a clear, scalable path for future expansion.
